Feudum: A nuanced game of hand & resource management

Created by Mark Swanson

The Kickstarter campaign has come to an end, however, retail editions (at full MSRP) of Feudum and the expansions may be pre-ordered right here! You may also wait until the summer when the solo variant: Feudum: The Queen's Army will launch on Kickstarter. Rumor has it, there will be some special campaign bundles. As always, shipping stacks with multiple orders, so be sure to take advantage of the all-in-one accessory and/or game bundle options. Late Retailer Backers may email Mark directly at [email protected].

Essen: Tale of Two Passports + Tabletopia!!
over 6 years ago – Wed, Oct 25, 2017 at 06:52:06 PM

If you ever happen to be the lucky owner of two passports, it's always wise to use the one that's NOT expired.  After finding the correct passport, paying more $$, and rerouting a few flights (I've always wanted to see Amsterdam), I am now scheduled to arrive in Dusseldorf a day late (Thursday morning at 7:40 am).  I will make it to Essen mid morning. All of these mishaps are the perfect opportunity to practice Stoicism. : )

On a more positive note, Panda invited me bowling in Germany. It will be the perfect opportunity to "pin" Panda down on updated production estimates. (Sorry).

Also, Tabletopia has recently released Feudum: The Queen's Army!!! (Also, Tabletop Simulator is developing a DLC of Feudum as we speak!)

P.S. If you're Essen-bound... I will see you soon: Hall 2, Booth 2C148.

Important Note From Panda
over 6 years ago – Mon, Oct 09, 2017 at 12:06:23 AM

Hello folks,

My project manager David Lipman wanted to personally share the following note with you. While this message is a tough and disappointing pill to swallow (for me and you), It is my hope that the goodwill, honestly and transparency that Panda has shown to us will be met with everyone's patience, understanding and forgiveness.

::: Note From Panda :::

Hi Feudum backers, my name is David and I work at Panda Game Manufacturing, the company that is handling the production of Feudum. I have been working with Mark for over 2 years on Feudum and it's been a great experience. After speaking with Mark, we both think it's a good idea for me to write this update from Panda’s side of the fence.

As you all know, Feudum is a massive and strategically complex game, and it’s matched by its components in those respects. The sheer amount of bits that are packed into each game is huge, and they’re not all simple cubes and discs. Some of the painted resin pieces that we’re making are pushing the boundaries of what we have done as a production company, and perhaps what has been done in tabletop games. On top of that scale, the scope of the Feudum project is massive in the number of different versions that we’re making. There are 15 unique items with their own assembly combinations and quantities, some of which share components between them in different ways. It is a very ambitious project that Mark has pulled off and that we at Panda are currently managing, on the same level of complexity as some of the other projects we’ve tackled like The 7th Continent, Scythe, and Anachrony.

All of this means that the production and assembly of a project like Feudum takes a lot longer than for any run-of-the-mill game. Unfortunately we did a poor job of estimating just how long this would take in the past months as we discussed timelines with Mark. We knew that it would be a difficult project, but it is only in the home stretch of the past couple weeks that we have realized just how involved and time-consuming the final aspects of production and assembly would be. On top of that, we want to make sure Feudum is as beautiful as Mark envisioned. We're not happy with how some of the pieces have turned out. Rather than send you something we're not all proud of, we're taking our time to make sure everything is perfect. Because of this, Feudum is going to be later than expected. We don't have an exact date yet but we are working with our production team and expect to have one soon. We do want to set the expectation that backers will not be receiving their rewards until after New Year's. We'll keep all of you updated with dates as soon as we have them finalized. I know that all of the folks here were expecting to have their games sooner than that, and to all of you, I’m sorry for the delay that we’ve caused. It’s our underestimation and demand for perfection that is making Feudum late, which is not something we’re proud of. This is Mark’s first project as a Kickstarter creator, and we’re disappointed to have let down him and all of the backers with a late delivery.

We are all gamers here at Panda, and most of us are Kickstarter backers as well. I know first-hand what it’s like to have Kickstarter projects that I’m very excited about be delayed. I also know what it's like to receive games that are not made well. Mark has done such a fantastic job creating a beautiful game in Feudum, and we want to do it justice by giving it the care and attention it deserves. Although it sucks to get a game late, we think it would be worse if we were to rush through production and assembly, and make mistakes by doing so. Our number one concern is to make sure the game you receive is perfect. We promise that Feudum will be worth the wait, and we’re very excited to be able to get it into your hands.

Again, I’m sorry to everyone here who is going to have to wait longer for Feudum, and we at Panda want to thank you all for dealing with this. If you have any questions for us, feel free to leave them in the comments section of this update, and we’ll check back to reply.

Final 48 Hour Notice: Address Updates + $1 Pledges + Final Lockdown
over 6 years ago – Fri, Sep 29, 2017 at 08:16:03 PM

Hello Backers!

You may have noticed that Backerkit sent you a recent reminder!  This is due to the following three important items:

  • Address Updates: Backerkit will be locking down your shipping addresses for in 48 hours. Please go into your server (Pledge Manager) and update them if you have moved!
  • $1 Pledge: 131 backers (out of several thousand) have pledged at the $1 level but have not added shipping ($5 U.S.) to receive the Foil Flying Epoch Marker. Many have indicated that they simply wanted to tip this amount (in lieu of actually receiving the marker, which is fine!) However, My assistant Miranda will be emailing all 131 of you to make absolutely sure. You only need to respond if you want to add shipping.
  • Final Lockdown: There were 155 unanswered surveys, (some at the $1 pledge level). Technically, those who have received surveys can still complete them. But you only have 48 hours.

As always, thanks for your support.

Production Update + Coins + Insert!!!
over 6 years ago – Sat, Sep 16, 2017 at 01:28:33 AM

Hey folks!  University demands have settled down a bit, and I finally got a chance to talk to Panda about a few things.  David Lipman assured me that everything was going smoothly and he shared the latest production schedule with me.  I will be locking down addresses soon and grouping all orders by shipping lanes in the next couple of weeks!

The latest Production Schedule

  • Preproduction: Complete
  • Mass Production: Almost Complete (Coins, Insert, German/French rulebooks left)
  • Final Assembly:  Underway
  • Shipping:  Oct. 11 (OTX freight to deliver from China to fulfillment centers in the U.K. Australia, Canada and the United States)  This takes 2-5 weeks depending on the destination.
  • Fulfillment: Nov. 15 (Pick N Pack and ship to backers from nearest fulfillment center)
  • Retail: Dec. 15

Metal Coins
I'm very pleased with how the metal coins turned out!  The level of detail is quite amazing, even though this picture doesn't quite do it justice.  We are adding a little more "wash" to the silver coins to create a bit more definition/contrast.  The thin edge will not have a burr on it like is seen in a few coins in the picture, but will be flush.

Meeple Realty Insert
I have some good news for those of you who ordered the Meeple Realty Insert! Out of a desire to create something even more perfect, Meeple Realty slightly increased the size and greatly improved the design of the insert to better accommodate components for all expansions. As you know, the wooden tray fits neatly into the full-color cardboard tray for a truly integrated design.
